Center for Policing Equity on the Shooting of Jorge David Alvarado

February 28 2022

Jorge David Alvarado, a Salinas police officer, was shot and killed Friday night while conducting a traffic stop. The suspect is currently in custody.

We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and greater community of Officer Alvarado for their tragic loss. Violence in a community, no matter who it is directed to, is devastating, traumatic, and a tragedy. No one should fear for their life when they show up for work. While the national media might not cover every shooting that occurs, these communities feel each violent incident that happens.

At the Center for Policing Equity, we are committed to redesigning public safety so that communities are safer for everyone, from the most vulnerable communities to those who serve in law enforcement, and we will continue to work tirelessly with community activists, reform-minded law enforcement leaders, and elected officials to find new ways of keep all communities safe, equitable, and thriving.
