A Measure of Justice: Forging Partnerships for Ensuring Equity August 23 - 25, 2012 DOJ/Georgetown Law School Washington DC This summer, the Consortium for Police Leadership in Equity held its second summer conference: “A Measure of Justice: Forging Partnerships for Ensuring Equity”.
The conference build upon the success of our 2010 conference, which was the largest convening of researchers, law enforcement, policy makers, and community advocates devoted to advancing equity in law enforcement. This year, we focused on the issues surrounding data collection and analyses, and we examined the ways in which empirical research can inform best practices in policing. Conference participants included 33 law enforcement executives from major cities in the US and Canada, 21 leading social scientists specializing in the science of contemporary bias, numerous representatives from federal agencies including the Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Office and Office of Justice Programs, and community advocacy group executives.
The conference provided law enforcement executives and researchers with a safe space and time to discuss equity in law enforcement in-depth and in a truly collaborative environment. Public panel discussions focusing on federal agency perspectives and community concerns were also held to ensure that the agenda we craft will be informed by all stakeholders, including funders, advocates, and consumers of this research. The CPLE 2012 Summer Conference was held with the support of the Department of Justice, Georgetown University Law School, Atlantic Philanthropies, the Russell Sage Foundation, Kellogg Foundation, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
