Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff on the Confirmation of Kristen Clarke

Today, Center for Policing Equity Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff released the following statement on the confirmation of Kristen Clarke to lead the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division:

Along with our entire team at the Center for Policing Equity, I want to send a heartfelt congratulations to Kristen Clarke on her confirmation as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice. Ever since I met her on campus at Harvard University, I’ve been inspired by her passion, commitment to protecting all, and ability to turn her drive for justice into tangible, long-lasting change.

She will now lead the Civil Rights Division as the first Black woman confirmed to the position, continuing to dismantle barriers that have existed for far too long. Just as she did in her previous experience in that very Division, where she served as a trial attorney for six years, and in her tenure as the President & Executive Director of the National Lawyers’  Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, she will continue to safeguard civil rights, advocate for necessary changes to our criminal legal systems, and stand up for our most vulnerable communities.

With her groundbreaking confirmation, we look forward to working closely with her moving forward.
