The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) announces the publication of The Journey: How to Scale for Impact with Social Justice Innovations, a dedicated resource that details specific approaches for adequate and progressive innovation, development, and organizational scaling for social justice work. The Journey: How to Scale for Impact with Social Justice Innovations resource includes a broad landscape analysis of existing literature, an end-to-end roadmap with milestones and objectives that map the journey to successfully scaling, and key discussion points to lead a thoughtful self-imposed analysis of the model’s value-add. The resource is accompanied by a Scaling Innovation Companion Brief.
“Innovation is central to the work being done at CPE and other social justice organizations more broadly. In order to address racial inequity, we must create new solutions to old problems. However, evolving conditions on the ground make this work difficult, even for the most promising innovations,” said CPE’s Vice President of Product Innovations in Justice Initiatives Nicole Johnson-Ahorlu, PhD. “This is particularly worrying for social justice nonprofits, which seek to change the status quo, but are often stifled by an endless number of risks and decision-points that must be managed in order to make tangible impact. We are proud to offer this resource, which seeks to streamline the innovative process, by merging evidence-based implementation and project management practices into a prescriptive roadmap. The roadmap supports CPE’s journey to design, demonstrate, and distribute impact to all the communities we serve. We hope it is a useful resource to other organizations as well.”
The Journey: How to Scale for Impact with Social Justice Innovations resource was designed to achieve the following:
- The integration of evidence-based practices from product development, implementation science, evaluation, and project management in an easy-to-use, comprehensive framework;
- Describes the foundation necessary for innovations to be viable and have a measurable impact;
- Provides guidelines to determine impact effectively;
- Outlines the steps to scale the innovation; and
- Includes a built-in feedback system incorporating metrics for tracking progress.
The new resource maps out clear and easy-to-navigate milestones, including four distinct objectives designed to help align an organization for success. Milestones and objectives are designed to remain consistent across methods, products, services, or programs while ensuring the resource remains easily translatable for various needs.
