Congresswoman Bush, Colleagues Reintroduce Groundbreaking Community Safety Legislation

The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) stands in solidarity with U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush and her colleagues as they reintroduce the People’s Response Act. According to their announcement, this groundbreaking legislation would advance an inclusive, holistic, and health-centered approach to public safety by creating a public safety division within the United States Department of Human Health and Services — because communities and experts agree that public safety is a matter of public health.

CPE’s Government Affairs Manager Charlotte Resing was quoted in the news release stating:

“Our communities deserve to be safe, and every individual, regardless of their race or background, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. The People’s Response Act is a bold and necessary piece of legislation to fund programs necessary to improve public safety and our communities broadly. A public health response forward approach to public safety is the only way to ensure Black and Brown people are treated equally in the pursuit of safety for all.”
