Progress has never been the work of just one person, one gift, or one moment. It’s always happened because many people choose again and again to show up for a shared purpose. That’s true of every meaningful shift toward justice in this country, and it is true of the work ahead of us.
August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time to recognize a long-standing tradition that rarely gets its due. Black communities have a legacy of generosity, from mutual aid societies, Black churches, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and more. Generations of givers have sustained the fight for equality.
Black Philanthropy Month exists to honor that legacy and to recognize Black donors as the philanthropists they’ve always been.
At CPE, we’re sustained by that tradition of giving, and this year, it matters more than ever. Racism still shapes who gets funded, who gets heard, and who gets left to do more with less. That’s why we’ve spent recent months refining our strategic plan, so every resource we have goes toward what matters most now, and for years to come.

$500 provides technical assistance and capacity building for public safety stakeholders, including police departments, partner institutions, and local governments.
$100 helps CPE provide data analysis and research to uncover racial disparities, inform recommendations, and generate evidence for change.
$50 helps our community engagement team elevate the lived experience of Black communities and strengthen grassroots infrastructure.
