Who We Are

“For 250 years the system has worked as intended.
And that should inspire reform”

Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff, Co-Founder and President of CPE

The Center's Important Work Continues Today

Today, the commitment of equity and inclusiveness within the police department itself and throughout the service community remains strong. Center for Policing Equity’s work continues to simultaneously aid police departments to realize their own equity goals as well as advance the scientific understanding of issues of equity within organizations and policing.

As CPE grows and partners with law enforcement agencies across North America, we hope that you will join us in this groundbreaking effort to chart a new course for equity in law enforcement.

As a research and action think tank, Center for Policing Equity (CPE) produces analyses identifying and reducing the causes of racial disparities in law enforcement. Using evidence-based approaches to social justice, we use data to create levers for social, cultural and policy change. Center for Policing Equity also holds a 501(c)3 status.

  • We are research scientists, race and equity experts, data virtuosos, and community trainers.
  • We use data to build fairer and more just systems.
  • We partner with law enforcement and communities. Our aim is to bridge the divide of communication, generational mistrust, and suffering.
  • But most of all, we are the path that science can forge towards public safety, community trust, and racial equity.

What Makes Us Different

Our work is powered by science. We use advanced analytics to diagnose disparities in policing, shed light on police behavior, and answer questions police and communities have asked for years about how to build a healthy relationship. It is a process everyone can trust—even when they cannot trust one another.

We do not just collect data. We analyze it. Taking data off the spread sheet and making it actionable is what we do best. Our partners use our analyses to chart a path toward their goals and consistent with their values.
