Josephine Smedley

Josephine Smedley joined the Center for Policing Equity in June 2022 as a Senior Community Engagement Coordinator with the Triage Response Team. She brings over 15 years experience from the nonprofit, educational, and government sectors where she oversaw county, regional, and statewide programs focused on ameliorating racial inequities.

Prior to joining CPE, Josephine served as the Black Infant Health program and Perinatal Equity Initiative Coordinator. In this role, she led collaborative efforts to improve birth and maternal health outcomes for Black families in San Diego County by changing systems that contribute to social injustices, economic disparities, and racial and health inequities.

Josephine earned her Masters in Public Administration and her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from California State University, East Bay. She is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters and enjoys listening to music and spending quality time with her family and friends.
