Jillian Swencionis, PhD

Jillian Swencionis is a Senior Research Scientist with the Center for Policing Equity (CPE). Her research moves between the laboratory, the field, and surveys to investigate how identity processes relate to disparate behavior.

In her postdoctoral work with CPE, Jillian translates and expands theories of stratification and identity to police-resident interactions. Her previous, current, and continuing research aims to advance the science of how social hierarchies facilitate identity threats, putting individuals, relationships, and groups at risk. Ultimately, this work aims to create effective interventions.

She holds a PhD in Psychology and Social Policy from Princeton University and completed her undergraduate degree in Social Studies and Psychology at Harvard University. Her research appears in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Social Cognition, Psychology Public Policy and Law, Journal of Social Issues, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, and Psychological Science.
