Hilary Rau

Hilary Rau leads the Center for Policing Equity’s policy team, which develops and advocates for evidence-informed policy interventions that reduce harm and discrimination in existing public safety systems and that support new public safety models that are more just and responsive to community needs.

Hilary is an attorney and policy advocate with a background in racial justice, disability justice, and gender justice advocacy.  Prior to joining CPE, she served as a staff attorney at a university-based research and action group focused on developing evidence-based, practical resources to promote gender and racial equity in the workplace and in higher education.  Prior to that, she worked as a civil rights attorney in private practice, representing victims of police excessive force and employment discrimination. Hilary received her J.D. from the University of California—Los Angeles School of Law and her B.A. from Pomona College.
